Your First Meta Ads Campaign: A 30-Day Plan for Ecommerce Sellers
This is a launch plan, not a theory piece. If you have never run Meta ads for your store, follow these four weeks in order — most first campaigns fail on setup and patience, not targeting.
Week 1: Tracking and account foundations
Install the Meta pixel and Conversions API together — browser-only tracking now under-reports conversions badly. Verify your domain, configure Aggregated Event Measurement priorities with Purchase first, and confirm test events fire correctly before spending a cent.
Set a realistic budget: enough for roughly 50 purchases per month at your expected cost per acquisition. Below that, the algorithm cannot exit the learning phase.
Week 2: Creative, not targeting
Meta's targeting is largely automated now; creative is the real lever. Launch one broad-audience sales campaign with 4–6 distinct creative concepts: problem/solution video, UGC testimonial, product demo, before-and-after, offer-led static, and a founder story.
Vary concepts, not colours. Testing five near-identical images teaches you nothing.
Week 3: Read the data properly
Judge concepts on cost per purchase and three-second video hold rate, not CTR alone. Do not turn ads off daily — give each concept at least 3–5 days and 1,000 impressions before a decision, and never edit an ad set mid-learning phase.
Week 4: Retarget and scale slowly
Add one retargeting ad set for viewers, add-to-carts and past buyers with a specific offer or objection-handling creative. Then scale winners by 20% every two to three days; larger jumps reset learning and spike your cost per acquisition.
Track blended ROAS across the whole store, not just in-platform numbers. Platform attribution flatters itself on every channel.
